We had our first meeting with the Tampa General Transplant Department today. It was, very informative. We had a class, met with our transplant coordinator, social worker and financial coordinator. Lots of questions asked and answered. They know pretty much everything about Barry, except for his kindergarten teacher’s name.
Everything went well today. So far, there doesn’t seem to be anything that will hinder Barry getting a transplant. He just has a lot more testing to go through. We will get a call in about a week to schedule our next round of meetings. That will be meeting the doctors and getting a list of all the testing Barry will have to complete.
We also learned more about the Living Donor process. Long story short, it would be ideal for Barry to have a living donor. Things would move a lot quicker and his chances are higher with one. IF you would like to be evaluated to see if you’re a match for Barry, you can call 813-844-5669 or log onto www.tgh.org/LivingDonorForm and fill out the form. All of this is completely confidential and we would be forever grateful.
Financially, our insurance will cover the bills for this. Evaluation takes about 3-5 days and the hospital stay after surgery is about 2-3 days. Just something to think about. *
